The Utility Accountant Software builds on the Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring foundation developed by George Hart of MIT in the late 1980s. Power is measured on the mains entering a building and step changes in usage are translated as the turning on and off of appliances. The Utility Accountant Software uses patented algorithms to create detailed tables of when major appliances turn on and off. Users interact with the web based software to assign names to loads and analyze their end use energy consumption. | | | Time series of major appliances operating for a week at a test residence.
