Dr. Hampden Kuhns
Dr. Kuhns is on Entrepreneurial Leave from his Research Professorship at the Desert Research Institute so he may manage Load IQ in a full time capacity. In 2006, Dr. Hampden Kuhns began developing instrumentation and algorithms to provide building managers with detailed information about their electric power and natural gas consumption. Dr. Kuhns has built a team of exceptionally talented scientists, engineers, and software developers to produce the Utility Accountant for deployment in the commercial sector.
In May 2011, his company Load IQ was awarded an NSF SBIR Phase 2 award and in October 2011, Load IQ won the Energy Efficiency Category award in the highly competitive California Clean Tech Open Business Competition. He has authored one issued and three pending patents for his innovations in load disaggregation. Dr. Kuhns has been a principal investigator and an active member in dozens of research studies focused on fingerprinting air pollution sources. Throughout his research career, he has published more than 40 papers as author or coauthor in peer reviewed journals.
